your farmers
Know who cares and tends to what fuels your life.
Majority of consumers are 3 generations removed from the farm. It is too common that we don’t have any connection to a farm or farmer. We have high hopes for owning a bigger farm one day, but just starting to raise nutritious food for our family and calling ourselves farmers is a dream come true! Learn more about The Kuhlers below.

Farm(her)
Ashley was born and raised in Shenandoah County. She didn’t grow up on a farm so she chose hobbies related to music, sports, and student council. When she joined FFA in middle school, her perspective changed. She started farm blogs, working at a flower shop, and pursuing FFA.
She served as a state FFA officer, later to meet her husband who was also a state officer. She studied agricultural sciences at Virginia Tech and minored in leadership and social change. After graduation, she taught middle school agriscience and FFA where she went to middle school.
After teaching during the pandemic, her career switched to marketing at an organic chicken company in the Valley, Farmer Focus. She has taken what she has learned from education, marketing products, and on-farm visits, to build the vision for how animals and plants are treated and raised at Shady Hill. In her spare time (lol what?!) she enjoys local coffee shops and naps all in between being the chair for a local FFA Alumni chapter, assiting with local Farm Bureau Communications and co-hosting.the Virginia Young Farmer’s Podcast!

Farmer
Chris is from a small town called Remington in Fauquier County. Know where that is? He is an Eagle Scout and “doomsday prepper”. Chris went to Virginia Tech and studied Agribusiness. A lot of his time at VT was spent taking Ashley Dunkin’ lattes to win her over. He also led the agriculture division of a commodity investing group that had a 1 million dollar portfolio. After graduating he moved on to be a portfolio manager and had some loans of his own with First Bank and Trust. Now, he is a credit analyst for Horizon Farm Credit. He’s at his desk by day, and once he’s home, he is outside where he loves to be. After winning Novice Showman in high school with sheep, he knew he was destined to own a flock. For now, he is the master planner for all things chicken and are the true hands and brain behind the mechanics at Shady Hill. In his spare time he enjoys eating authentic Mexican Cuisine, woodworking projects, and washing his 21 year-old Ford truck.
It was love at first sight for Chris, and after all the pumpkin spice lattes, walks across the Virginia Tech Drillfield, and Chick-Fil-A dates, Ashley caught on that Chris was one-of-a-kind! The Kuhlers enjoy being outdoors in God’s creation. Patience Jane (PJ) came into the world May of 2023, joining her fury big brother, Truett. She is a true joy and lights up a room everywhere she goes because she is “so alert”.
Chris finds refuge in working and building outside while Ashley finds peace in creating with nature. Enjoy products that are created with passion and nourishment from our hearts for yours.

Truett
CUSTOMER SERVICE REP.
Truett was born in Dayton, VA, on a dairy farm. He comes from a line of herding dogs. We got Truett hoping that he would be our sheep herding buddy, but our dream to get the farm and sheep was stalled when we couldn’t buy a farm. Truett enjoys barking at squirrels, car rides to the flower farm, and playing in the kiddie pool on a hot summer day. Expect to play when you visit.
